Oval scheme is hit with ministers

The £35m redevelopment of the Brit Oval cricket ground in south London has been approved by the government. The scheme, which includes a new stand to raise the capacity to 25,000 and a 168-bed hotel, was held up for 18 months after concerns that the plan scheme might pose a safety risk given its proximity to the Kennington gas holders.
