Usain Bolt races away in front of kids
THE fastest man on the planet was in South London yesterday, hoping the weather is as warm when he returns for the 2012 Olympics.
Jamaica’s record-breaking sprinter Usain Bolt was at the old Lilian Baylis School in Lollard Street, Kennington, leading a sports science class for around 50 youngsters.
Usain, who recorded a world record time of 9.69 seconds in the 100m sprint at the Beijing Olympics last year, said: “It’s nice to be in London and the weather is wonderful.
“If it’s like this at the Olympics in London then that’s good for me.
"I like it because it loosens up the muscles and it’s easier to stay warm.”
The youngsters were from the not-for-profit organisation Sports Action Zone, which promotes the benefit of sport, nutrition and social inclusion throughout north Southwark and Lambeth.
With his well-known love of fast food, Usain admitted he was an unlikely role model.
He joked: “Yeah, I’ve been telling them not to follow my love of fast food.
"I’ve been trying to cut down on that anyway.”
The sprinter will be back in South London for the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on July 24 and 25.
