THE family of a young dad shot dead in his car have said witnesses “need to be brave” in the hunt for his killers.

The family of 24-year-old Nathan Williams were speaking after it was revealed CCTV installed in the estate near where he was killed a week before had yet to be switched on.

Nathan was killed while performing a three-point turn in Ludwick Mews, New Cross, on July 28 at around 1.30am.

Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison, from the Met’s Operation Trident, said 30 officers were on the hunt for four teenagers seen walking through the street and on to the Woodpecker Estate on the night of the shooting.

Paying tribute to her son on Monday, Nathan’s mum, Ann-Marie, 41, said he was a “beautiful young man”.

She was speaking as she and her family joined cops in the area to hand out leaflets appealing for witnesses to come forward.

She said: “He was a lovely guy with a family who loved him.

“I appeal to anyone out there who knows anything to have the courage for Nathan.

“Someone needs to be brave and come forward if they know anything.

“He worked hard in everything he did and was studying up to three hours every evening. He wanted to set up his own business.”

The South Bank University business student, from Kennington, had a two-year-old son, Shae, and a brother, Sherriah, 18.

His uncle, Ben Hinds, 51, said: “He was a great person who loved his music and friends.

“This is a type of crime that has affected communities across South London and we must stop it.”

His cousin, Zena Hinds, 29, said: “We plan to set up a trust in Nathan’s name – we have to make sure his name isn’t forgotten.

“He was a very quiet guy but was always there for me and the family.”

DCI Allison said: “Unfortunately CCTV cameras were only put up on the Woodpecker Estate last week and weren’t set up.

“We will trawl back through footage from cameras all the way round the estate and follow it back.”
