Tributes to the victim

TRIBUTES line a residential road where a young man received gunshot wounds that later claimed his life.

Police said the 22-year-old was shot in the chest at around 6.50pm on Monday in Alberta Street, close to Kennington Tube station.

The victim has been named on tributes as Daniel Duke and also by the nickname “Mimer”.

Investigators believe he staggered into nearby Ambergate Street before collapsing.

He was discovered by police and treated at the scene by ambulance staff.

He was taken to hospital where he died shortly before 1am on Tuesday.

Messages have been left on the roadside next to the police cordon this week.

One read: “He lived for everything, died for nothing.”

Another message said: “RIP Mimer. My brother, no one can replace you. Always in my mind and heart.”

A post-mortem gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

Cops say the victim’s family have been informed.

A police spokesman said: “Detectives from Trident are investigating and retain an open mind as to the motive at this early stage.”
