White Bear Theatre: Special Offer for Kennington Association Members - “Two for One”

The Winterling

by Jez Butterworth

West waits in a burnt-out farmhouse, on Dartmoor, in the depths of winter, for two associates from the city.  The wine has been poured and the revolver loaded.  But who or what is waiting upstairs?

“I like London.  I like pavements.  I like to walk out the door and not sink up to my tits in primordial sludge.  I don’t like trench-foot.  I don’t like sheep.  I don’t like the country.  It’s covered in shit.”

The Winterling is a darkly comic drama built on a myriad of startling characters and an unrelenting barrage of rapid-fire wit.

“a sense of menace invades every conversation
like a razor-blade…  knock-out one-liners.”
Time Out

Stone Junction and The White Bear Theatre present a revival of “The Winterling”, written by the Oliver Award winning playwright, Jez Butterworth. This show follows the success of Jez Butterworth’s current Broadway smash-hit “Jerusalem” (which won Best Play Awards at the Critics’ Circle, Evening Standard, and WhatsOnStage.com Awards) and like this later work contains his trademark effervescent dialogue and fascinating characters.

“Jerusalem [sic] marks the maturity of a wordsmith with a dazzling gift
for pastiche into a genuine, utterly singular artist.”
New York Times

This is the premier production of Stone Junction, an innovative new theatre company, dedicated to the revival of works by popular, modern playwrights from the UK and worldwide.
