DAYS OF THE
COMMUNE

By Bertold Brecht

"Truth can be written in ink.

Lies must be written in blood."

Paris, 1871.
The end of the bitter Franco Prussian war and the people of Paris are starving within their city walls.

The national government have set up in Versailles leaving the city without leadership.
In the uprising of a people to claim what is rightfully theirs, and the fight to keep it, comes a question still valid today: must peace be sacrificed to be achieved?

Brecht's most ambitious (and rarely performed) historical play and his last original work explores the Paris Commune, one of the first workers' revolutions and the model for Communism as we know it today.

Revived by Gunpowder Theatre in association with the White Bear Theatre.

This play is part of the White Bear's Revolution, Reaction and Reform Season, which will include Count Oderland by Max Frisch and The Sixteenth Floor by Ayn Rand, which explore the inevitable conflict between collective
action and individual choice.

Count Oderland was on Kenneth Tynan's list of un-produced plays which he believed should be produced by the National.  Ayn Rand is the author of the
hugely influential The fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.
