Meeting tonight re air pollution on Kennington Park Road

to kprranw@gmail.com

Dear friends and neighbours,

I emailed a while ago about the TFL consultation around changes to the Central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ):

The deadline for this is Sunday 25th June.

We're meeting tonight, (Monday 19th), 8pm at St Marys Newington to coordinate our responses to the consultation. Local Green party reps have said they'll come along and share their NO2 pollution readings and relevant campaigns from across Southwark (see below), and we have also invited local councillors and MPs.

We're really concerned that the proposed changes to the ULEZ isn't taking into consideration the boundaries of the zone - or properly considering the impact on residents living just outside. We already know that more than 31,547 vehicles drive along Kennington Park Road each day (almost 10,000 vehicles/day more than Kennington Road and almost twice as many vehicles as Kennington Lane) (source www.howpollutedismyroad.org.uk) and NO2 levels along Kennington Park Road are regularly more than 150% above EU limit (communitymaps.org.uk/project/air-quality-monitoring), which includes some of the highest readings across the whole of Lambeth. If the boundaries of the ULEZ mirror those of the CCharge zone, then ever more polluting traffic will be pushed down Kennington Park Road.
When we surveyed local residents last year, 41.67% of you supported expanding the congestion zone as far as the South Circular, and 25% supported expanding it to include KPR. We will be advocating that the ULEZ should be expanded to include areas outside of the CCharge Zone and, this evening, we will aim to come up with a paragraph that you can cut and paste into the 'other comments' section of the consultation response form as there are no specific questions about the boundaries of the zone.
We will submit a response to the consultation on behalf of KPRRANW, but it is also really important that as many people as possible submit individual responses.
We hope to see lots of you there this evening - please forward this email to any other local people or groups who you think would be interested.
Many thanks,
Lucy
